Sojubar
On a rainy January evening in Brussels, the kind where you crave something warm, easy and comforting, we found ourselves at Sojubar. One of those evenings where you don’t want anything complicated, just good food, a relaxed atmosphere and a place where you can settle in without overthinking it. We slid into a booth, shook off the rain, and immediately felt at ease.
Sojubar is casual dining done right. Relaxed, lively, and welcoming from the moment you walk in. It’s the kind of place that works perfectly for a quick bite before heading out for the evening, but just as well for a laid-back dinner with your teenagers. Nothing feels forced or fussy. You sit down, you share dishes, you talk, you laugh and enjoy a moment together.
The menu is built around sharing, with Korean fried chicken taking centre stage. Crispy, sticky, full of bold flavours and impossible not to love. This is the kind of fried chicken that makes you reach for another piece without realising it. The sauces are playful and punchy, hitting that perfect balance between savoury and addictive, making it ideal to order for the table and dig in together.
There’s plenty more to explore beyond the chicken. Kimbap is comforting and familiar, neatly rolled and easy to share, making it a great option for kids or anyone new to Korean food. Bibimbap brings something warmer and more filling to the table, while mandu add that essential dumpling moment—crispy, soft, and gone almost as soon as they arrive. The flavours are fun, accessible and generous, without ever feeling heavy.
What really makes Sojubar stand out is the atmosphere, and a big part of that comes from the staff. They’re genuinely fun, relaxed, and clearly want you to enjoy yourself. There’s a lightness to the service that instantly puts you in a good mood. It also makes this a great place to bring kids—everyone is welcome, everyone is treated the same, and there’s no pressure to behave a certain way.
Then there’s the kind of deal you remember. Order the fried chicken, and you can get a half litre of beer for just 6€. Simple, smart, and perfectly in line with the casual vibe of the place. It’s the kind of detail that encourages you to stay a little longer, order one more plate, and enjoy the evening as it unfolds.
Beyond Brussels, Sojubar is part of a wider, international concept rooted in Korean street culture. The idea is to bring bold, comforting Korean flavours to cities around the world in a fun, social setting built around sharing, connection and good vibes. Wherever you find a Sojubar, the focus stays the same: accessible Korean food, a lively atmosphere, and a place where food is meant to be enjoyed together rather than over-explained.
