La Bière des femmes
Beer and women: a love story
Advertisers often like to depict beer as a very masculine drink, saying, "Men know why!" Some women also have preconceived notions about beer, thinking that it makes you gain weight and that it's a man's drink. However, throughout history, beer was primarily brewed and consumed by women.
Thanks to the support of the Promojo association, Image de Bruxelles, and with the collaboration of Visit Brussels, the label and concept "La Bière des Femmes" organized an all female jury to select their favorite Brussels artisanal beer for 2023!
The goal is to celebrate craft breweries and beers , have a blind tasting, choose a favorite beer.
The 5 preselected breweries (1 Bière 2 Tartines, En Stoemelings, Brasserie de La Senne, Brasserie de La Source, and Witloof) each presented a beer of their choice. The theme of the day: bitterness. Hélène Spitaels, a sommelier, presented the different beers.
The competition was on October 23, 2023, at the Beer Museum, at the Grande Place.
The other 14 jury members appreciated all the beers presented for different reasons, but the "Mermaid" (from Brewery 1 Bière 2 Tartines) is the one that received the most votes, closely followed (by one vote) by the "Coyote" (from Witloof Brewery). The "Coyote" also received a special mention from the jury, who believe that it's perfect to enjoy this autumn, while the "Mermaid" is ideally savored on a terrace in spring or summer... or with the good cheeses from the Catherine cheese shop!
